Christmas countdown!

We have only a few more days left of school, and soon it will be time for Santa to visit.

Leo found this great clip that helps to explain how Santa makes it all around the world on Christmas Eve.

Here's one of our favourite Christmas songs!

You can track Santa on his journey around the globe HERE.

Swimming

We have been very, very lucky in Room 3 to have Jessie helping us learn how to swim. Look at the things we can do!

In we go! Jessie will show us what to do.

I can blow bubbles!

I can put my nose in the water!

Who will win the race?

We make 'crocodile noses' with our arms, and 'SNAP!' we can swim.

Great work!

Arms up high!

Ready, steady...

GO!

Thanks Jessie for all your help! We loved swimming with you.

Letter of the week - Gg

Our beach art trip.

We had a wonderful trip to the beach this morning and we were so creative! Thank you so much to the parents that joined us, we could not have gone, or had so much fun without you.

We made a spider, he needed eight legs!

Look what I made!

Working hard...

We made a castle!

We were a great team.

We stayed together...

It was interesting to see what the other groups made.

We worked together as a team!

We used our imagination.

And we loved having our parents with us!

Let's be friends!

We had a wonderful time with our production last week. It was hard work and we did a lot of practice, so it was very special to be able to share all our hard work with our friends and whanau.

We all got ready in Room 3 and waited to go on stage.

Room 15 showed us their 'Dancing pants'

We rocked it out when our song came on!

"That's what makes you beautiful!"

Room 16 had a Hungarian Dance to share

Room 6 had a cute dance!

And Room 4 were ready for bed when they did their dance!

We're looking at the letter Ff again this week - mainly because we are going to be learning about frogs this week, as we watch our tadpoles!

Letter letter Ff is not to be confused with the 'Th' sound. We'll be watching each other when we say FROG this week, to make sure we're not poking out our tongues!

We might challenge ourselves this week and learn a new song! This one is sung by the most famous frog in the world.

Letter of the week - i

Welcome to week 5.

Out letter this week is the letter i, we write this as a short stick and then a 'dot'. Remember your dot is only tiny - not a bog blob!

We did a good job with the letter Mm last week, and thought of lots of good 'um' words. I wonder if we can get good at the the small 'i' words we know this week....in, if, it and I

Letter of the week - Mm

We're going to be looking at M this week. Some of us are lucky enough to have looked at this letter before, and so we're going to challenge ourselves by thinking about the way we can use M in the middle of words. To do this, we're going to think about the sound 'um' makes.

This week we have our jUMp off,  I hope no-one falls and bUMps themselves!

We'll also be having fun thinking about all the words, and people we know that start with the letter M.

Wow!

Well, there was another big surprise waiting for Mrs Stroud this morning. It was very busy in Room 3, while we were all sleeping! Meet the new members of Team Toru! They're looking forward to meeting you all in the morning.

Letter - Nn

We're looking at the letter Nn this week. Some children will remember this from Term 2. We're on a roll now though, with our short sticks, and our tunnels - so we can't stop!

'n' is a short stick and a tunnel.

Hatching time!!!

Look what Mrs Stroud found when she popped into school this afternoon! Our baby is nice and cosy in the incubator. Keep your fingers crossed for our other two eggs.

Letter of the week - R

The letter Rr really is the most refreshing, radical,  random,  and ravishing letter for our letter of the week!

We will all be great at writing this letter as it is just a short stick, and half a tunnel - really rewarding!

Perseverance

This terms value focus at Kapanui school is PERSEVERANCE.

This week in Discovery time we talked a lot about persevering, and how we can get grumpy or frustrated and that's OK, as long as we keep trying.

We shared this video, which was lovely for Room 3 as we've been talking about and drawing pigs for our letter P.

This little pig shows plenty of perseverance!

Letter of the week - Pp

Welcome back to school everyone! The letter of the week is Pp.

We write 'p' using a 'hanging stick' - this is something new to try!

Perfect pink pigs begin with P!

Trip to see the roadworks

We were very lucky with the weather for our trip to see the new bridge being built. We were also very lucky to have so many parents join us!

We drove to the end of the road and walked down the path. Sarah and Lisa who work at the roadworks met us, and made sure we stayed safe.
We spotted the roadworks from the path....
It's exciting!

Sarah told us about staying safe, and what we were going to see.
Sarah was excited to show us all the amazing machines...
Sarah took us along the path and showed us the BIGGEST CRANE in New Zealand!! It was BIG!

Wow! This crane weighs 200 tonnes.

Sarah asked us to think of a name for the crane....
Then we looked at the piles that will hold the bridge up. The cages will go into the ground and they will be filled up with concrete from 50 trucks!

Then Sarah showed us some pictures so we could think about what the bridge will look like when it's finished....
