Fish dip!

Yum! Today we made fish dip.
We visited Room 17, and we made two dips to try. One dip had tuna in it, and the other had salmon. We talked about how nice it would be to have some crayfish too!
We chopped up carrots and tried the dip with carrots and rice crackers.

It was: 'terrific' 'epic' 'delicious' and 'yummy'!

Food of the week - onions.

Last week, we learnt all about onions. Some of us didn't think that we liked onions, but we tried Onion Bhaji and onion dip! We used our Kapanui value of courage to help us try something new.

We learnt that onions can be brown or red, and we learnt that they grow from small seeds. Some of us planted our own onion seeds in Discovery time. We also have an onion growing on our science table, we are watching to see if we can grow a new onion from the bottom of an old one.

Here we are making our Bhajis!

We mixed all the ingredients together.....

Then the Bhaji's were fried in the pan.

We watched carefully, it was hot and the oil was spitting and sizzling.

Then it was time to try them out...

YUM!

Letter of the week - week 6 - Ll

The week our letter is the lovely letter Ll.

There are lots of things that begin with the letter L. Please bring your letter L objects to share on our letter table.

When Amelia Ant helps us to write the letter L we need to remember to start away from the ant track. Our L's should land on Amelia's track.

Letter of the week - week 4

This week our letter of the week is Aa!

This is every exciting, as we can practice our 'open mouth', this week we're going to close them up and then draw a 'short stick'.

Here are our songs and videos for the week.

Spinach.

Wow! This week we have learnt so much about spinach. We started our week with a story all about where spinach grows, and how it is cut and washed before it goes to the supermarket.

We also talked about how spinach can grow in our vegetable gardens at home!

We all gave raw spinach a try - and we thought it was pretty yummy!

The highlight was making Hulk juice on Thursday. We were worried that we might turn green, but apart from a few green mustaches, we were AOK, and it was really yummy!

We read the recipe and got the ingredients ready...

We pushed the fruit and vegetables into the juicer.

We had to push down hard on the lid. Look at all the frothy green juice!

Yum! Some of us had extra helpings.
Harry got a bit of a moustache!

Some of thought we might turn into the Incredible Hulk!!

A busy week

Well, last week was very busy.

We met Harold, which was so much fun! We learnt all about how to look after ourselves, and what animals need to stay healthy. On Friday we all looked after Harold's friends and went on a bush walk together.

Here's a great activity on Harold's website to try at home - Who am I?

We had the Commonwealth games on thursday, and we all competed in our Whanau groups. This was a great way for us to meet some of the bigger kids in the school, and they did a great job of looking out for us and making sure we had fun.

Here are some pictures from the opening ceremony.

We finished our week off in style by watching the first heat of Kapanui's got Talent. Our friend Mila is the only New Entrant that has entered, and she knocked everyone's socks off with her hula-hooping. She was so wonderful that she has been selected for the final. Well done Mila!

Term 3 week 3

This week our letter is Oo. Get your thinking caps on and lets share all our ideas about things that start with the letter O.

For handwriting, we will be talking about drawing an 'open mouth' and then 'closing it up'!

The other exciting focus for this week is our food of the week: SPINACH!

We'll be making Hulk juice this week....... let's hope no-one turns green.
